History of River Valley Waldorf School
The dream of starting the first Waldorf School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania began in 1992 when a group of Bucks County residents interested in Waldorf education formed a non-profit organization, The Waldorf School Association of the Delaware River Valley. With the opening of The Golden Circle Kindergarten in January of 1994 in a little cabin in the woods south of Quakertown, this vision became a reality. In 1996 the first parent-toddler class called “Garden Gate” came into being, and our first grade was added in the fall of 1999. We were rapidly outgrowing our little cabin, and to allow our grade school to grow we had to find a new home.
In June of 2000 we moved to our current beautiful home on 7 ˝ acres overlooking the Delaware River Valley – the former Bridgeton Elementary School building, in Upper Black Eddy. In 2005, River Valley School achieved “Sponsored School” status and was recognized by AWSNA as a Waldorf School. As such, the school’s name legally changed to River Valley Waldorf School. Early in 2006, River Valley Waldorf School received accreditation by PAIS – PAPAS (Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, formerly Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools). In June 2007, the first 8 year cycle of Waldorf education will come to fruition when we graduate our first 8th grade class. Our school family continues to grow and our vision is still growing and evolving to meet the needs of our growing community.
