Special Subjects
The Waldorf Curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education including academic subjects, foreign language and cultural studies, movement and physical education as well as a full sprectrum of the arts. Class teachers provide much of this teaching, but Special Subjects teachers are subject-matter experts who work with the children on a regular basis to provide special classes which are integral to the Waldorf Curriculum. There are a number of specialist teachers in a Waldorf school who teach foreign languages, handwork, woodwork, eurythmy, music, and gym. In the upper grades, language arts, math, science, chorus and orchestra are often taught by special subjects teachers. These subjects are taught one, two or three times a week following the main lesson. Your child's class teacher will share with you the weekly schedule at the beginning of each school year.
