Middle School at River Valley

< back

The Waldorf middle school curriculum (6th through 8th grade) takes students out into the world – requiring more abstract thinking, studying subjects that take them further from the world they know – yet also begins to cultivate inner knowledge of self. It works to mitigate the volatility and egocentrism of adolescence by encouraging a healthy interest in the community and the world at large. Academically, key components still rely on direct observation, participation & investigation. Visual & practical arts, music and drama still engage the heart and soul of our middle school students.  River Valley middle school students still have a class teacher, which may or may not be the same individual with whom they have studied since first grade. RVWS employs a team-teaching model where each middle school teacher presents those main lesson blocks within a particular realm of expertise, rather than one teacher covering all major themes.
